摘 要: 两个实验探讨了中国英语学习者常规转喻通达的时间进程。实验1发现,在常规转喻加工的早期时间点,低水平学习者只激活常规转喻的主要意义,不能激活次要意义;而高水平学习者能够激活转喻的两个意义。实验2进一步发现,在转喻加工的晚期时间点,高水平学习者只能抑制次要意义,不能抑制主要意义。这表明,中国英语学习者转喻加工过程不遵循不确定模型,而遵循顺序通达的模型。这个基于频率的转喻歧义词加工方式可能和他们的转喻表征有关。 Two experiments have been conducted to explore Chinese EFL learners' time course of metonymy process- ing. Experiment 1 finds that at the early stage the low proficiency learners could only activate the dominant meaning of a me- tonymy. In contrast, the high proficiency learners could activate its two meanings. Experiment 2 further finds that when ISI was delayed to 800ms the high proficiency learners could only suppress the subordinate meaning of a metonymy, but not its dominant meaning. The results suggest that the Chinese EFL learners' processing of metonymy was not consistent with the Underspecification Model. Instead, their processing kept to a frequency-based model. This model might be accounted for by the EFL learners' representation of metonymy.
