摘　　要： 《法国中尉的女人》是英国作家约翰·福尔斯最著名的一部小说 ,也被称为后现代的元小说。书中作者描述了萨拉这位神秘的女性 ,她的身上体现出文学传统的继承与发展 ;她的出现颠覆并重构了传统的男性女性关系、主人仆人关系。同时 ,萨拉所表现出的对自由的渴望 ,以及为此做出的奋斗及结果 ,与作者所处的时代相呼应。 The French Lieutenant’s Woman is the best-known novel written by John Fowles and is also called the po-mo metafiction. In the novel the mysterious woman Sarah is introduced, whose image is the result of the literary tradition and whose appearance and behaviour have undermined the relationship between man and woman, master and servant. And her image also echoes the feminist movement in the 1960s. The analysis would help understand the protagonist and also the novel better.
