摘　　要： 《法国中尉的女人》中萨拉的出现颠覆并重构了传统的男女关系、主仆关系、结婚还是单身的关系,同时,萨拉所表现出的对自由的渴望以及为此做出的奋斗及结果,与作者所处的时代即 20世纪60年代相呼应。通过对萨拉这一形象的再解读,便于读者更深入地了解作品中的人物及其所蕴涵的时代意义。 The French Lieutenant’s Woman is the best-known novel written by John Fowles and is also called metafiction. In the novel the mysterious woman Sarah is introduced, whose appearance and behavior have undermined the relationship between man and woman, master and servant, marriage and being single. And the freedom she has achieved reflects the spirit in the 1960s and has its own functions and meanings. The analysis would help understand the protagonist and also the novel better.
