Based on participant-observation of a Chinese Christian Church(CCC)in California, this paper, from the perspective of individual-collective interaction, examines the influence of the Christian religion on migrants’ethnic identity within the social context of transnationalism. This paper finds that CCC exerts a huge impact on overseas Chinese. The communication system of CCC is made up of discursive rhetoric, daily interaction, and collective rituals. These factors have profoundly influenced members’daily life, spiritual beliefs, and identity.CCC can reinforce migrants’ethnic identity, and it is the“quasi-family”relationship formed through the aforementioned communication system that links religious identity and ethnic identity.
