摘 要: 苔丝悲剧一直被认为是命运悲剧、性格悲剧和社会悲剧。这些观点忽视历史语境对个体的影响,忽视历史语境不是价值中立的真空,而是成员之间的关系受到物质生活的生产方式影响的人群。在文明社会里,个体被内心世界的需要和物质文化生产再生产过程中的内在需要的矛盾塑造着。矛盾的结果不是物质文化生产再生产方式的个性化,而是个体成为生活方式的工具。在这个过程中,个体不完全是被动的,个体能动性表现在个体或者选择泯灭个性,保存肉体;或者选择保存个体,消灭肉体。苔丝的认亲、饲养家禽和挤牛奶的职业过程以及离开亚雷家,吐露真情和亲手杀死亚雷个体认知过程表明生活方式以及在生活方式之中相互消融的政治、经济和文化对个体的影响,表明个体内心世界的需要和物质文化生产再生产过程中的内在需要的矛盾是悲剧根源。 Tess Tragedy has been acknowledged to be brought about by fate,by social mechanism and by individual character. These recognitions are free of the fact the context in a historical stage is not a neutral vacuum but a community of people whose relation to each other has been bound with the way their material life is produced. In the civilized world,the individual has been molded by the contradiction between the needs of the inner world and the inner needs in economy,politics and culture contained in the lifestyle. The contradiction does not result in the personalization of the way material and cultural life is produced,but media of lifestyle or instrumentation of personality in fulfilling the needs in politics,economy and culture contained in the lifestyle. In the process of subjectivity construction,individual is not passive. He has to choose between maintenance of spiritual personality and physical death or spiritual death and physical existence. Tess' profession process of claiming kinship,feeding the poultry and milking the cows is accompanied by individual acquaintance process when Tess' leaving Alex,revealing her inner world to Angel and killing Alex. It shows the deconstructive effect of lifestyle or the mutual becoming political,economical and cultural contained in the lifestyle on individuals.
