Pat Barker, one of the most important contemporary British novelists, has been dedicating herself to the depiction of various kinds of trauma since 1980.In her novel Another World, she explores how war-induced traumatic memories are transferred from the older generation Geordie to his grandson Nick.Through her narration of the transmission of war-induced trauma from one generation to the next,Barker reveals that World War I has brought great suffering to the British people and implies that personal trauma engendered by war could lead to a collective trauma memory of the whole nation by trans-generational transmission.
