The year from 1971 to 1972 is the important stage in the history of Sino-US relations and Mr. Kissinger and Nixon' s visits to China in succession started an important step to ease Sino-US relations. During their visit to China the Vietnam War was one of the focuses of both sides. Although Chinese government insisted on non-interference in Vietnam' s internal affairs and gave huge assistance to North Vietnam, China aetually encouraged North Vietnam to settle Vietnam' s problem by negotiations, which caused North Vietnam' s suspicion and resentment and launched the Easter Offensive to seize the initiative. But the failure of the offensive compelled North Vietnam to know the reality and begin to negotiate with U. S. seriously, which laid the foundation on Paris Agreement. However, Sino-Vietnamese relations continued to deteriorate in this process and the two sides looked united but differed at heart.
