摘　　要： 19世纪上半叶,基督新教传教士为摆脱其在中国政治、社会与文化活动空间受到极大限制的困境,及时调整传教策略。创办教会学校便是其重要方法之一。早期教会学校将西方近代教育制度、课程设置与教学方法引进中国,开启了中国的学校英语教学。特别是1818年创办的英华书院和1839年创办的马礼逊学校,英语教学已颇具特色。 During the first half of the 19th century,the Protestant missionaries timely regulated their tactics of missionary work so as to extricate themselves from a difficult situation that they were extremely restricted in political,social and cultural activities in China.Setting up mission schools was one of their important tactics.Early mission schools imported Western systems of modern education,curriculum,and teaching methods into China.They started English teaching in Chinese schools.English teaching in the Anglo-Chinese College established in 1818 and the Morrison School in 1839 already showed their distinguishing features.
