Nowadays the prevalence of visual culture leads to the ignorance of "hearing" little by little in literary study, though "hearing" serves as an important sensual approach for human beings to understand the world. Various kinds of "sounds", however, play an indispensable part in the textual reading of literature. This essay aims at summarizing and further commenting on the domestic scholars' exploration in acoustic research by mentioning the limitations of visual reading era, finding the meaning of sounds and reconstructing the function of hearing in literary study and thereby, concludes that the overuse of vision strictly restrains the development of literary studies in scope and depth, foreign literary studies in particular. Then it becomes urgent to resume the acoustic study-an important research dimension. The encouragement and support in the theoretical construction and practical application of acoustic research in order to go beyond the existing theoretical system becomes the key to promote the realization of acoustic turn in literary studies.
