归家后的流亡——詹姆斯·乔伊斯《流亡者》中流亡的不同层次

摘  要: 乔伊斯发表的唯一剧作《流亡者》是一部形似易卜生式的现实主义作品。现实被搁置甚至沦陷,人物的塑造也不是简单的模仿,而是观念的载体。该剧通过流亡知识分子对于家国、婚姻和两性关系的态度来探讨流亡这一核心主题。流亡是乔伊斯在成年后生活的主要状态,也是其作品的重要主题,在作品中反复出现、不断变化,呈现出不同层次和心理体验。 James Joyce's Exiles (1918), a piece of work exiled both from the rest of his corpus and from the theatre, assumes the outlook of Ibsenist realism. The play does not anticipate empathy with the characters or dramatic actions on the part of the audience, but with the dramatist' s intellectual quest for freedom and autonomy, which is conveyed through Richard Rowan' s self-imposed exile from his nation, family and morality; his endeavor to create a reversed moral order that promotes the freedom of oneself and the others. The immoralist ideal infuses the dramatic experience, morphing the audience ' s awareness of the interaction between the characters on the stage into a subliminal attack on its faith in marriage, friendship and morality.
