British contemporary writer Lawrence Durrell's 'islomania'toward Cyprus is the result of psychological, economic and political factors. Disagreeing with the idea that 'travel writing is a lie',this paper argues that based upon his sojourn experience Durrell as a Cyprus islander and a British colonist objectively and realistically represents the living condition and political situation of Cyprus from 1953 to 1956 in Bitter Lemons. Durrell not only condemns the Enosis movement, but also reveals the failure of British colonial politics in Cyprus.
