摘 要: 上世纪初,理雅各、庞德、威利将中国古诗首译成英文介绍给西方读者,迄今汉诗英译已是较为成熟的译介研究话题。上世纪初和歌英译亦掀起股股热潮,阿瑟·威利不仅在1918年翻译出版了《中国古诗170首》,在1919年翻译出版了《日本诗歌:和歌》,将5-7-5-7-7-音节的短歌译成五行诗,继承了Robert Brower和Earl Miner的翻译方式;而且在1921年至1923的《源氏物语》和《紫氏部日记》的翻译中,将诸多和歌归译成一行散文。汉诗与和歌的英译值得深入研究,特别是以阿瑟·威利这位有西方文化背景,又精通中文与日文的译者的译作为研究对象。 At the beginning of the last century, James Legge, Ezra Pound, and Arthur Waley started translating Chinese ancient poetry into English to introduce to western readers. Since that time, the development of a body of English translations for Chinese ancient poetry has come far. At the same time, English translations of Japanese waka poetry began to grow popular.Arthur Waley translated and published One Hundred and Seventy Chinese Poems in 1918, and Japanese Poetry: The Uta in1919, translating the 5-7-5-7-7 syllables to cinquain and inheriting the translation style of Robert Brower and Earl Miner. In the translation of Genshi Monogatari and the Diary of Murasaki Shikibu, he translated many Waka into one line prose. The English translation of Chinese poetry and Japanese Waka is well suited for further research, especially taking Arthur Waley's translations as the research object, given his western cultural background and his proficiency in the Chinese and Japanese languages.
