The CuFeO2 (CFO) ceramics were prepared by using solid state reaction method at different sintering temperatures such as 950,1 000,1 050 and 1 100℃. The influence of sintering temperature on microstructure, element valence and antiferromagnetic phase of CuFeO2 ceramics has been investigated. The XRD results showed that a major CFO phase has been formed in all CFO ceramics. The SEM images indicated that the microstructure morphology is obviously affected by sintering temperatures. The grain size and open volume of the pores increases with the increasing sintering temperatures. The XPS spectra showed that the valence state in copper appears in the mixed state of Cu^+ and Cu^+2 , while the iron ion valence is unchanged. Magnetic measurements showed that the stability of antiferromagnetic phase of CFO ceramics decreases with the increase of sintering temperatures.
