"Impersonation" is a new critical term in Asian American literary criticism. As a critical trope, it has gone through a process of politicalization and become a token of power manipulation, and moreover, a political strategy taken by marginalized subjects in their struggle against the unfriendly living environment, and the unfair political and cultural constitution. Through impersonating different personas, the ethnic "Other" in Asian American literature transforms and deconstructs the discourse of the hegemonic culture, with the aim of constructing the subjectivity of the individual self and the collective self.
