摘　　要： 电视意象在雷蒙德·卡佛的短篇小说中反复出现，是其小说重要的元素。笔者认为，卡佛小说中的电视有别于消费研究或者大众文化研究中电视的指涉意义。卡佛把电视作为蓝领阶层的符号，并认为沉迷于电视、被电视“控制”在某种程度上反映了上世纪七、八十年代美国蓝领阶层的生存状态。同时，电视使蓝领阶层在人际交往中原本存在的交流障碍更为严重，人物变得寡言少语，这也是卡佛小说被人标为“极简主义”的原因之一。卡佛同时也暗示，如果蓝领阶层要有所改变和发展，就必须摆脱电视的控制。 Television appears constantly in Raymond Carver＇s short stories. The aesthetic purpose of ＂television＂ by Raymond Carver is different from those of mass media culture study and consumerism study. According to Carver, television is the symbol of blue collar＇s life. Television causes characters to have more problems of inarticulation and to have less talking, which is one of the features of Minimalist short stories. Carver also suggests that if the characters want to develop themselves into better ones, they have to escape from the control of television.
