摘　　要： 过去半个多世纪的斯坦贝克研究表明,学术界对斯坦贝克的评价存在极大的分歧,有人认为他像海明威一样,作品很少写女性人物,有人却认为他是女权主义的维护者。斯坦贝克塑造了诸多给读者留下深刻印象的女性角色,其中《人鼠之间》中的柯莱妻子、《菊》中的伊莉莎、《愤怒的葡萄》中的乔德妈和罗莎夏等都是美国女性的特殊代表,这些人物的一言一行反映了斯坦贝克的女性观。结合其家庭背景、时代背景和人生经历等来解释其女性观的建立、发展与变化,从而有助于更好地理解斯坦贝克其人其作。 Researches on Steinbeck in the past fifty years show that in the academic circles there were contradictory opinions.Some scholars hold that he seldom involved female characters in his works just like Hemingway,while other scholars believe that he is a real protector of feminism.Actually,he vividly depicted many memorable female characters,such as Curley＇s wife in Of Mice and Men,Elisa in The Chrysanthemum,Ma Joad and Rose de Sharon in The Grapes of Wrath,Juana in The Pearl,Suzy in Sweet Thursday,Mary,Margie and Allen in The Winter Of Our Discontent,indicating his dynamical attitude towards femininity.This paper attempts to present the dynamic change of his attitude and probe into the possible reasons that caused this transformation via analyzing his family and historical background as well as his life experiences so as to obtain better understanding of John Steinbeck as a man and as a writer.
