摘　　要： 自2012年莫言荣获诺贝尔文学奖后，其小说成为众人的焦点。更令人兴奋的是，曾被认为是“隐形人”的翻译被推至幕前，受到越来越多人的关注。甚至有学者直言，莫言的小说根本达不到诺贝尔文学奖的标准，他的获奖很大程度上是靠翻译有意“美化”或“过滤”后的译文。 翻译不仅仅是两种语言或两个文本之间的转换，更是一种跨文化的交流形式。原文本在传播的过程中，必须经过译入语文化这张无形筛网的层层过滤，从而会发生各种形式的改变。 一直以来，国内对“文化过滤”现象的研究集中在比较文学领域，将其运用在翻译中的研究很有限，且其中很多缺乏具体的理论框架或是完整的案例分析。本文首先在翻译研究“文化转向”的大背景下，对“文化过滤”内涵的深度和广度进行了扩展，然后对葛浩文翻译《丰乳肥臀》一书的整个过程进行了分析，通过大量且完整的实例探讨了“文化过滤”机制的特点,是如何产生并在具体翻译操作中运行的。 研究发现，“文化过滤”现象在文学翻译中是不可避免的。宏观上它影响了译者对原作者和原文的选择，翻译的倾向；微观上它影响了译者对原文的调整改变删除以及对文化信息的具体处理。中国的文学要真正的“走出去”，首先译者要在尊重和保留原文精华的前提下，敢于过滤，大胆变通；原作者则要保持自信宽容的心态，积极的面对“文化过滤”。 Since Mo Yan won the Nobel Prize in Literature in2012, his novels have been thefocus of the book markets and academic circles both at home and abroad. What ismore, the translator, who used to be the “invisible man” behind the author, has beenput in the spotlight. Some scholars even think that Mo Yan, who does not deserve thehonor, should owe the success to his translators such as Howard Goldblatt and AnnaChen, because they have “beautified” or “filtered” his works intentionally during thetranslation process. Translation is not merely a transfer of languages or texts, but a cross-culturalcommunication. During the translation process, the source text has to be “filtered”through an intangible web of a different culture. For a long time, domestic studies on“cultural filtration” have been concentrated on comparative literature rather thantranslation studies. This thesis, against the background of “cultural turn”, aims to probe into thecharacteristics of cultural filtration and how it operates in translation by analyzing thewhole process of Howard Goldblatt’s translation of Mo Yan’s Big Breasts/&WideHips. Through the analysis, this study finds that cultural filtration occurs due to thecultural differences and the translator’s consideration of cultural elements both withinand beyond the text. On the macro-level, it has profound effect on translator’sselection of the source text; on the micro-level, it influences translator’s strategiessuch as deletion, abridgement, change of plot and adjustment of sentence or paragraph.This research is intended to make people have a better understanding of thephenomenon of cultural filtration.
