摘　　要： 身世之谜在《汤姆·琼斯》中起着表现主题、结构全书的重要作用。对身份问题的探讨体现了作者对虚伪社会与道德的批判及对真善美的憧憬 。 The hero's identity mystery in The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling plays the key role of exhibiting the theme and structuring the whole novel. The identity exploration embodies the author's criticism of the then hypocritical society and moral, and also his longing for the true, the good and the beautiful, which produces a far-reaching effect on a multitude of later writers.
