On the Road, written by Jack Kerouac of the United States in 1857,is the long novel of the beat generation. Most parts of the novel are autobiographical with a loose structure. It describes a group of young people's absurd life experiences and it reflects the spiritual emptiness and the unexamined life state of the postwar American young people. Therefore, the novel is known as the representative works of the Hippie movement in the 1960 s and the beat generation. However, their action and works of the beat generation are derived from youth and passion, but also contains aimlessness and helplessness.
