摘　　要： 习语体现其民族的历史进程、文化传统、生活习俗 ,无不给其民族语言留下深刻独特的烙印。本文利用对比的方法 ,首先试图阐述英汉习语在语音、语义、结构等方面所具有的特点 ,即语言的形象性 ;意义的整体性 ;搭配的稳固性 ;音韵的和谐性。然后进一步分析了英汉习语在地理环境、文化背景。 Having left their deep and unique stamps on the language, idioms can best express the historical process, cultural tradition and customs of the people. The present article, adopting a contrastive approach, attempts to put forward the distinctive characteristics of both English and Chinese idioms, namely, metaphorical language, integrate meaning, fixed collocation and euphonious sound. And then it tries to make an analysis of their cultural discrepancies in terms of geography, culture, custom and religious belief.
