By taking John Osborne's 'Look Back in Anger' as an example, this paper analyzes the new features of the post-war English drama and summarizes its five innovations or changes in contents, themes, writing style, language and the relationship of two sexes. In contents, the post-war English drama breaks through the traditional pattern. The working class and figures at the lower middle levels occupy the position of masters instead of original kings, queens, officials, gifted scholars and beautiful ladies frequently appearing on the past stages for several hundred years. In themes, it comes back to the realistic tradition and combines itself with the British social and political problems. In style, it also returns to the realistic writing method of the 18 th and 19 th centuries. A simple and concise style is employed to deal with the depiction of figures and description of life. In language, common and popular words mixed with slangs are used instead of elegant but out-of-date dramatic ones. Last, it reverses the traditional structure of the relationship of both sexes.
