摘　　要： 历史城市地理学是历史地理学重要的一门分支学科,它的研究对象是历史时期的城市,即研究历史时期城市空间组织及其演变规律;历史城市地理学的根本特性是区域性、综合性和时序性;历史城市地理学来源于地理科学和城市科学,是一门综合历史地理学与城市地理学的整合学科。历史城市地理学的研究内容应为历史时期城市兴衰的地理背景、历史时期城市区域空间组织(城市体系)特征及其演变规律、城市化规律、城市内部的空间组织演变(城市内部结构)规律和城市的可持续发展研究。城市的空间组织形态是一个不断演进的历史过程。 As a branch of historical geography, historical urban geography studies cities in different historical phases, namely, urban spatial organization and its law of evolution in historical periods. Essentially characteristic of regionality, comprehensiveness and temporal sequentiality, historical urban geography is derived from science of geography and science of cities, hence a composite discipline of historical geography and urban geography. Its studies cover geograpgical background for the rise and fall of cities in history, characteristics and law of evolution of urban regional spatial organizations(urban system), law of urbanization, law of evolution of urban inner spatial organization(urban inner structure) and urban sustainable development. In fact, urban spatial organization is a steadily evolutionary process.
