Nothingness' is one of the most important categories in Laozi's philosophy. This paper tries to re-explain Laozi's philosophy from the view of 'nothingness'. 'Tao' is the ontology in Laozi's philosophy. It has no figure and no representation. It transcends all substance. It is 'nothingness' in essence. 'Nothingness' isn't 'gas' with no figure , nor is unlimitation. 'Nothingness' means transcending all being. It is a kind of metaphysics of negation. Because 'Tao' is 'Nothingness', so Laozi's philosophy is not strategy. He held the view of obeying the nature to pursue a kind of wisdom to recognize 'Nothingness'. There is unlimited freedom in Laozi's philosophy as it is based on 'Nothingness'.
