The Three Gorges Hydroelectric Power Station is located at the region with high resistivity of soil and the currents entering the ground caused by faults are rather intense. The calculation results from preliminary calculations in reference [2] show that for the grounding mesh of Three Gorges Hydroelectric Power Station the requirement in the standard DL/T 621-1997 of the grounding of AC electrical equipments, that is *the rise of ground potential should not be higher than 2000V*is difficult to satisfy. To determine whether it is possible or not to increase the value of the tolerable ground potential rise, one factor influencing the tolerable ground potential rise is the power frequency voltage withstanding characteristics of control cable. It is tested and researched and some useful conclusions are obtained.
