摘　　要： 爱人"一词是在五四运动(以1919年为标志)引起的"恋爱自由"的风气中出现的。当然"爱人"一词在当时也只是在知识分子中流行使用,直到1949年全国解放时,"爱人"一词也只是流行在老解放区内的,对于新解放区的知识分子来讲"爱人"一词还是十分生疏的。"爱人"一词是中国阶级斗争的产物,是从旧社会过渡到新社会的新生产物。尽管"爱人"一词已通行几十年,其用法还是很难为社会所普遍认同。作者在翻阅众多的英汉词典及网络词典时发现"lover"一词在很多词典中被译成"爱人",作者不禁提出疑问"英语中‘lover’一词是否可以与中文的‘爱人’形成对等关系?"通过实证性的考察,作者得出的答案是否定的。 The appearance of the Chinese word'爱人'is due to the conflicts among different classes, and it is the new product of the transition of two eras. Though the word'爱人'has been widely used for a long period, its usage is still under great controversy. The author finds out that the word'lover'is translated into'爱人'in plenty of English-Chinese dictionaries, which leads the author to question whether'lover'could be translated into'爱人'. Through the empirical and theoretical research the author comes up with a negative answer.
