摘　　要： 校名翻译的重要性毋容置疑,但如何将校名翻译好却是众说纷纭。通过厘清专名与通名的区别,认为校名以整体作为专名存在于语言交际中,其最重要的特征是其指称性。为了在翻译中保留指称性,校名翻译应遵循约定优先的原则。约定并非凭空产生,在寻找或创造约定的过程中,应该以最佳关联性为指导准则。 The translation of college names is necessarily important.However,there is no consensus on how to achieve a good translation.With the clarification of difference between proper names and common names,a college name is holistically regarded as a proper name in language communication,and the primary function of a college name is its referentiality.In order to retain its referentiality,the principle of priority of agreement,should be followed.Conventionality can be assured by the guidance of optimal relevance.
