摘　　要： 《东西洋考每月统纪传》是西方传教士在中国本土创办的第一份近代中文报纸,记录了19世纪30年代南中国海地区的历史文化现象,表现了刊物创办者和撰写人对于鸦片战争前期中国历史、文化和人们思想、道德的认识及评价。这份刊物对于南中国海地区历史文化所作的反应和评论,反映了西方传教士在进入中国本土后,对于中国历史、文化、思想等各方面的认识接受和交流状况,为我们理解此阶段的中国社会、文化现象和历史人物保留了一份珍贵的记录。 Eastern Western Monthly Magazine is the first modern Chinese newspapers found by the western missionaries in China which has recorded the history and cultural phenomenon of the South China Sea region in the 1830s, showing the founder and writers＇ evaluation to the history, culture and people＇s thinking, ethical awareness before the Opium War. This publication has response to the history and culture of the South China Sea region, re- flecting the knowledge and exchange of acceptance conditions of the Chinese history, culture, ideas and other as- pects after the western missionaries＇ entry into the Chinese mainland. It is a precious record for understanding of Chinese social, cultural phenomena and historical figures in that period.
