Place attachment, a kind of emotional relationship between people and a particular place, is a con- cept of environmental and social psychology and has become a hot research topic. Place attachment has been applied to management and has developed into place-based management thought and theory, which is helpful for manager to realize the meaning and value of a place to local residents in the aspects of emotion and function, and then take management measures accordingly. Effect of residents' place attachment on their everyday behavior and attitude to- wards resource protection and management is a significant study issue. Under the background of tourism development, problems and contradictions in ancient village protection are characterized by universality, complexity and seriousness in China. In order to solve these problems, some ancient villages take efforts to relocate residents outside the villages by building new residential district. But this solution is not so successful. Investigation shows the impact factors of relocation include not only economic factor but also emo- tional factor. Residents' emotion to their villages exerts influence on their attitude towards village management measures and their behavior, and it has become an important factor that cannot be neglected in village management. Taking Wuyuan ancient villages in Jiangxi Province as study case, this paper measures place attachment of ancient villages residents by designing measurement scale, analyzes its dimensional structure, and then examines the relationship between place attachment and residents' relocation willingness by constructing structural equation mod- el. Research results verify that residents' place attachment is comprised by two dimensions, namely place depend- ence and emotional attachment. Residents' place dependence on the villages affects their emotional attachment to the villages positively and significantly. Residents' dependence on the villages in living and residence is the impor- tant factor in the formatio
