With reference to the revised cases of Chinese translators' works made by Pinkham in his book The Translator' s Guide to Chinglish, this paper deduce a hypothesis that English is a result-oriented language in use while Chinese a process-oriented one. This idea has been proved to be true in comparison between the Yangs' and Hawkes' translated texts of the Chinese classic Hong Lou Meng, and it is also 'affirmed by some relevant studies of linguists. This paper argues that C-to-E translators, bearing in mind that the readers of their works are native English, should accordingly adopt the result-oriented approach in their rendering efforts, and that our research has value for C-to-E translation practice.
