摘　　要： 在《女勇士》中,空间不仅是小说人物和事件的背景,而且与小说人物的命运相连,具有深刻的象征意义,是作品表现小说主题的重要艺术手段。《女勇士》描述的空间意象较多,大致可分成对照分明的两组:井和房间等封闭的空间,象征着男权社会对女性的压抑和禁锢,被束缚的女性在沉默中丧失理智或者死亡;龙所象征的开放空间,既包含传统中国道家天人合一的思想,更体现了跨越国界和种族的星球观。《女勇士》讲述了一个华裔美国少女如何突破种族和性别的樊篱,走出沉默,走向展现自我的广阔天地的成长过程。 In The Woman Warrior, space is indispensable to the unfolding of the plot and the portrayal of the char- acters and therefore embodies symbolic significances. In the novel, the spatial imagery fails into two groups： the close space represented by the well and the secluded house as symbols of the oppression of women in the patriarchal society; the open space as condensed in the image of dragon which conveys both the Taoist concept of nature and the author＇ s idea of planet as the trascendence of race and border. The Woman Warrior tells the story of an Ameri- can Chinese girl who crosses the racial and sexual barriers and goes out of a girlhood of silence into an active and productive open space.
