Western translation studies has a long history of more than 2,000 years, in each period of which the considera- tion of readers is taken into account, either mentioned unintentionally as a reference or discussed directly as a topic. With enlargement of the scopes and enrichment of the perspectives, western translation studies has made a development fi'om pre- scription to description and from single to multiple. In this process the study of readers is gradually emphasized and they play a role from invisibility to visibility and from edge to center. As the measure of the value of translated products and as the re- cipient of "after-life" of the original, readers are deserved to be the important part in translation studies.
