摘　　要： 西部民族地区中小城市不断发展壮大,但在城市发展建设中未能展现出独有的民族文化特色。该文以云南省楚雄彝族城市特色研究为例,对城市特色塑造过程中体现出的特点及存在问题进行分析,并对楚雄市整体城市特色结构进行了梳理,提出西部民族地区中小城市特色塑造应注重挖掘文化,强化特色;继承传统,发扬创新;明确定位,把握重点。希望能为西部民族地区其他类似中小城市特色塑造提供经验。 in spite of the fact that middle and small cities in west National Area are developing continuously, the distinctive features have not been shown in the urban development. In this paper, Chuxiong in Yunnan Province was taken for instance in order to analyze the features and problems which appeared in the developmental process. Moreover, this paper will solidify the structure of Chuxiong＇s characteristic. It should be pointed out that the development of national areas should focus on excavating the culture and enhancing the trait, inheriting the culture and pursuing innovation, identifying the position and grasping focal point. Finally, it is hoped to provide some experience to shape the characteristics in other similar middle and small cities in the west regions of China.
