摘　　要： 英语语言中的"歧义"是一种常见现象。在言语交际中,一般认为歧义会有碍交流,但如果人们有意地加以巧妙运用,却能得到意想不到的交际效果,更好地达到某一交际目的。文章从交际目的入手,对蓄意歧义在英语言语交际中的作用进行了举例分析和论述,从而阐明了蓄意歧义在言语交际中的重要性。 Ambiguity is a common phenomenon in the English language. It is generally believed that ambiguity can be an obstacle to communication. But if ambiguity is used properly, it can perform unexpected functions and achieve some communicative goal. This paper is an attempt to analyze some different functions of the intentional ambiguity from the perspective of the communicative goal with a case study so as to clarify the importance of the intentional ambiguity in English speech communication.
