摘　　要： 要学习一种语言,我们必须学习单词。英国语言学家大卫.威尔金斯说:"没有语法,人们可以表达的事物寥寥无几,而没有词汇,人们则无法表达任何事物。"语法提供的是总的句子模式,而词汇则是置于句子模式之中的语言材料。词汇习得在外语或第二语言学习中的重要性是毋庸置疑的。然而,面对数量庞大的单词,没有行之有效的方法,要完成此任务是很难的。经过一个学期(2009年9月至2010年1月)的试验表明,把记忆术用在词汇习得中,其效果比传统的方法显著得多——既提高了学习者的学习兴趣,又使单词记忆得更加准确、持久。 To learn a language, we have to learn the words. British linguist David Wilkins （1972） puts it this way： ＂While without grammar little can be conveyed, without vocabulary nothing can be conveyed＂ . Grammar provides the overall patterns, and vocabulary is the material to put in the patterns .Undoubtedly, vocabulary acquisition is important in learning English as a foreign language or a second language. However, facing a large number of words, we must look for an effective method to accomplish this mission. Using mnemonics in vocabulary acquisition is much more effective than the traditional methods, which has been proved by the students who take the one-semester mnemonics course from September, 2009 to January, 2010.
