Gramsci analyzed the commercialism of detective fiction from the aesthetic perspective and proposed that we analyze the popularity of detective fiction from the practical, cultural, political and moral aspects. And the most distinctive thing is that Gramsci considered the detective fiction as part of the "popular-national" literature. Meanwhile, Foucault realized that detective fiction emerged during the transformation of discourse practice of power, and produced different effects in different social classes. Their analyses depict interestingly the historical pedigree of detective fiction.
