摘　　要： 奥尼尔一生致力于用悲剧探索人生的基本问题,对他来说,"戏剧是生活——生活的实质和对生活的解释"。他把日常生活中的普通人当作他的灵魂悲剧的主体,刻画悲剧人物矛盾、复杂的人性,通过对人的潜意识的揭示来展现现代人内在的精神冲突,反映物质文明社会中人的精神困境,为一个主要关心娱乐的商业化时代重新召回了悲剧的精神价值。 Eugene O＇Neill devoted his life to exploring the basic problems of life with tragedy,regarding drama as the essence and explanation of life.He took the common people in daily life as the subject of his soul tragedy and portrayed their complex and ambivalent humanity.By uncovering their subconscious,the internal spiritual conflicts and existential predicament of modern people had been revealed in contrast to the material civilized society.His efforts contributed to recalling the spiritual values of tragedy back to the modern society which put excessive emphasis on the commercialization of entertainment.
