摘　　要： 《法国中尉的女人》的成功是与作者约翰.福尔斯创作过程中自觉的读者意识密切相关的。福尔斯以读者为导向,将传统和革新予以交融,一方面遵循传统,顺应大众读者的需要,另一方面破除传统,利用多种后现代手段拓展读者的阅读空间,堪称忠实与自由的完美结合。 The success of The French Lieutenant’s Woman is tightly connected with the audience awareness of the author John Fowles.Taking the audience as the center,Fowles integrates tradition with reformation.On the one hand,he embraces tradition to please common readers,on the other hand,by applying multiple postmodern techniques,he breaks the tradition to broaden reading room for the readers,which shows the perfect union of faithfulness and freedom.
