摘　　要： 文艺复兴运动使城市设计具有了精英化特征,其对19世纪早期的田园城市理想、城市美化运动和19世纪后半叶的城市更新计划产生了深远的影响。然而,在理性原则指导下的现代城市设计实践并没有完全实现预期的社会目标。尽管后现代思潮对现代城市设计实践进行了深刻反思与批判,但全球化所带来的竞争压力使城市设计受到政治和商业利益及社会中上阶层偏好的影响,而呈现出"再精英化"的特征。这对处于现代化与全球化的双重进程中的我国城市设计提出了巨大的挑战。因此,深化城市设计过程中的公共参与环节,强化中央政府在城市设计中的作用,使城市设计成为满足不同社会群体意愿的共同空间表达,是城市设计领域实践科学发展观、建设和谐社会的必由之路。 Cultural renaissance refines out understanding of urban design and deeply impacts the garden city theory, city beautiful movement, and urban renewal planning. Rational urban design has not realized its intended social goals. Post modernism has criticized contemporary urban design practices but did not alter the situation. Globalization allows urban design redefine itself and express political and commercial identities, which has posed a threat to Chinese urban design. Public participation and central government intervention are ways to let urban design represent the will of different social groups. Social inclusion is necessary for urban design to incorporate scientific development concepts and build a harmonious society.
