摘　　要： 论文针对近代上海外滩形成过程中几个关键而长久未得到重视的问题展开讨论,其中包括公私领域、华洋竞争、地价和法规等方面与空间形态的关系。论文第一部分通过对沿江土地所有者、非沿江租地人、外侨管理者以及华人政府的利益所在、采取措施及其后果的剖析来论述外滩公私领域的范围、边界变迁之动因及其对空间形态的影响;第二、三部分则论述了在外滩历次的空间尺度变化中华洋竞争、地价所起到的作用,其中包括土地章程、贸易活动、外滩花园建设等影响因素。 This thesis wants to make a discussion on several key factors which have been ignored but exerted very important influences on the development of the bund of modern Shanghai, including the function of the public space and the contest of locals and foreigners, the price and regulations and their relationships to the Bund space. In the first part, the thesis explains the border of public and private spaces along the Bund, changes of borders and impact on the space, by analyzing the interests, actions and consequences of four groups of inhabitants in the settlement： land renter along the Bund, land renter not along the bund, the municipality and the Chinese government. In the second and third parts, the thesis discusses the influence of land price and the contest of locals and foreigners, including the outcome of the Land Regulations, the Trade activity and the construction of the Public Garden, which were also key factors of the vicissitude of the Bund space.
