The basis of cognitive semantics of the corresponding active sentences and passive sentences in Japanese was analyzed by using the theories and methods of Cognitive Linguistics, and compares the similarities and dissimilarities between the two. The result reveals that the cognitive models of the corresponding active sentences and passive sentences in Japanese tally with the action chain structure, so the corresponding active sentences and passive sentences in Japanese are keeping the paraphrase relations. However, the active sentences in Japanese treat the starting point of force - the agent - as foregrounding, which is a kind of description of the sequence, while the passive sentences treat the ending point of force - the patient - as foregrounding, which is a kind of description of the flashback.
