摘　　要： 生成语法是典型的解释性语言理论。解释的充分性是它追求的最终目标。文章通过分析该理论不同阶段对英语被动式这一具体语言现象的不同处理,探讨了生成语法前后的发展"轨迹"。 Chomsky＇s generative grammar is a typical explanatory linguistic theory, which has experienced five different stages up to now. It takes explanatory adequacy as its final aim. Through analyzing the way this theory dealt with the English passive at its different phases, this paper provides us with a general idea on how generative grammar strives toward this aim step by step.
