Ordinary people living in politically marginalized areas are not the targets of enlightenment;however, they are actively involved in the historical process. The dispute that occurred in Youmin School,a missionary school run by Presbyterians,in 1927,was originally a controversy concerning the ownership of school property among Presbyterians. However, all the parties involved in the dispute reinterpreted the progress and significance of the event from a nationalist perspective, thus promoting the political status of such a local event and turning it into a kind of resource for the construction of modern state.
