The existential construction is defined as a kind of sentence in which the location words acts as the subject. The existential construction means that somebody or something exists, appears or disappears somewhere. According to the analyses of around 8000 linguistic examples of the Vietnam student's and 176 existential constructions in five comprehensive textbooks for foreign students, the author summarizes that existential constructions have several cohesive devices in the background of the sentence groups. The author further hopes that this analysis can offer some useful help for learners who observe Chinese as second language from the perspective of learning and teaching context.
