Aims of this work were to get the information concerning toxic effects of Cd and Cu on the catalase(CAT) activity in Asian clam (Corbiculafluminea) , and to evaluate the potential utility of CAT activity as biomarkers of exposure to Cd and Cu in the clam for further applications in environmental biomonitoring. In a laboratory static study, C. fluminea were exposed to three doses, 50, 100, 150 μg/L for 24 h and 48 h in single Cd, Cu and combined Cd and Cu. Results showed that CAT activity were sensitive to the pollutants and there were dose -pollutant correlativity effect for the CAT activity in the clams. The CAT activity of the clams after exposed to 50 - 150 μg/L of single Cd and Cu were from increased to remarkably decreased. Effects of 50 - 150 μg/L of combined Cd and Cu on the clams were inhibited while 150 μg/L of combined Cd and Cu were significantly inhibited. CAT activity can be used as biomarkers of level of clams exposure to Cd and Cu.
