摘　　要： 《红字》是19世纪美国浪漫主义小说家那撒尼尔·霍桑(Nathaniel Hawthorn)的代表作,小说独具特色的象征手法大大丰富了作品的内涵。该文从红字A本身、人物珠儿以及场景刑台等的多重象征性来探析作品所赋予的生命寓意。 Nathaniel Hawthorn was one of the greatest American romanticists in the 19th century whose novel ＂The Scarlet Letter＂ has been regarded as one of the greatest works in American literature since it was published. By using the skill of symbolism successful Hawthorn made the novel rich in content and extolled the meaning of life. This article attempts to expound the symbolism of life through the analysis of three aspects： the scarlet letter ＂A＂, the character Pearl, and the background of execution in the story.
