摘　　要： 意象图式理论的研究仍有很大潜力,其研究表现为极大的不平衡性:首先,在一个具体的学科内部表现为理论与实证研究的不平衡性;在学科之间表现为跨学科研究的不平衡性;在不同语言中表现为跨语言和跨文化研究的不平衡性。改变以上不平衡性,既是研究者的任务,也为研究人员指明了研究方向。 This paper aims to give a comprehensive account of image schema research. It traces back and critically reviews the developmental process of image schema theory in cognitive linguistics, psycholinguistics, cognitive developments etc. It is concluded that the research on image schema theory has a great potential, and it is highly imbalanced： theoretical and empirical research are imbalanced within a specific subject discipline; an interdisciplinary research is imbalanced ; a crosslinguistic and cross-cultural research is imbalanced. It is, therefore, a high time to balance the research on image schema theory.
