摘　　要： 湖南洋务运动失败的原因在于:一、缺乏政府财政支持;二、湖南巡抚调动频繁且思想保守;三、省境教案会党起事迭起;四、民风、士风对洋务运动抵制。湖南洋务运动虽然失败了但是它对产业资本主义的兴起起到了开通风气的作用。 The failiure of westernization movement in Hunan lies in：the first is that the movement has no financial support from the government; the second is that the conservative governor of Hunan was frequently transferred to anther post ; the three is that the uprising in the province continently broke out; the four is that the common social practice and the gentleman resisted to the westernization movement. Although the westernization movement in Hunan failed but it initiated the industrial capital .
