The uniaxial compression test was carried out on undisturbed Qa loess, and the influence of different pressure directions and soak paths on the deformation characteristics of collapsible loess were analyzed. According to the test results, the anisotropy of collapsible loess deformation and the independence of deformation and soak paths during moistening or demoistening process were discussed. It indicates that the anisotropy of collapse deformation and loess compression deformation is particularly evident, moreover, in the course of compression in different pressure directions, a transformation relation exists between collapse deformation and compression deformation. When the loess is compressed in vertical direction, the collapsibility of loess is the largest but its compressibility is the smallest. The collapsibility of loess is the smallest but its compressibility is the largest while the loess is compressed in the direction of 45~. When the loess is compressed in horizontal direction, the collapsibility and compressibility of loess are between that of vertical direction and the direction of 45°The compressibility of loess samples after soaked and saturated is almost the same when the loess is compressed in different directions; compression deformation of saturated loess is isotropic. The collapsibility and compressibility of loess have no relation with soak paths. The compressibility of loess samples after soaked is independent of its initial moisture content. Different soak paths and pressure paths have no effect on the compressibility of soaked loess samples.
