In the 1930s,Chinese modern cities like Shanghai emerged. In the famous literary magazine Xiandai(Modern),there were a lot of narratives centering on women. However,in the works in Xiandai,in the male perspective of the narrators, women were just being judged and commented, instead of using their own voice.Even though there was a faint sound from women, it hid itself or stood behind the line of male-dominant discourse, and identified itself with the male value judgment, which sequentially revealed a rupture in the narrative of modernity: women's request for liberty and freedom during the May Fourth Movement had ceased all together.Female narratives did not establish a set of narrative mechanisms to enlighten women for modernity, ultimately resulting in the absence of the discourse of modernity.
