摘　　要： 比喻包括隐喻、明喻、转喻、提喻等,是语义修辞法的重要组成部分。而语义修辞法在英语谚语中发挥着重要的作用,是英语谚语特征的显著标志。正是这些语义修辞法的大量运用,才大大提高了英语谚语的表达能力,使英语谚语语言简洁、内涵丰富、哲理深邃、形象生动。 Tropes include metaphor, simile, metonymy, synecdoche, etc. They are major elements of the semantic devices of rhetoric which play an important part in the English proverbs and they are powerful marks of the characteristics of the English proverbs. It is considerable use of those semantic devices of rhetoric that greatly improves the expressive ability for the English proverbs and makes the English proverbs become brief in speech, vivid in image, rich in connotation, and profound in philosophy.
